17th Annual Father's Day Road Race

Hello,

I am writing to you in regards to our 17th Annual Father's Day Road Race on June 19, 2011 at The Children's Museum in Easton.  This annual five-mile road race and two-mile "Fun Walk" benefits the educational programs and exhibits of the Children's Museum in Easton.  There will be plenty to do the day of the race, including: a post-race party, raffles, and awards, the museum is also giving away t-shirts to the first 300 pre-entrants, as well as cash prizes for the top 3 male and female runners!

It would be greatly appreciated if you could post this information on your website, as well as pass the information along to interested runners. The race attracted almost 400 entrants from communities throughout Southeastern Massachusetts last year and is a great event to be part of!

If you would like anymore information you can go to the race's website www.fathersdayroadrace.com or contact Andrew Peterson either by email info@childrensmuseumineaston.org

St Pats 5K

The day was partly cloudy more overcast at times than others. The breeze was chilling but in the pack bearable.

With over 3,000 finishers, there was a good sized pack. Enough to keep mostly warm as we gathered for the start.

Fortunately, the pack filled in quickly and after the usual brief speeches and National Anthem, we were off. Heading up Smith St to the turn around point and then down hill coming to the State House guarded by the minutemen on top. It seemed like the State House was forever in front of us and not coming close enough soon enough.

Such are the illusions or delusions of a runner.

Refreshed by going to the well

Went running late Sunday afternoon, not my normal time. I prefer to run in the morning before the events of day get rolling. The snow in the morning changed those plans. Made more sense to go in the afternoon when the roads would be clear. I could put my foot down and know it would stay there instead of slip sliding this way and that.

One of my favorite routes is out Chestnut St to Jordan Rd and over to RT 140 back to Chestnut/King and home.

Jordan with its rolling terrain provides a good workout. I did stop for a couple of photos but it was worth it. The photos came out well and I had a good run. I was refreshed by the well!

The energy generated by the run, keep me going into the evening. All that fresh air was a good re-charge to the body so I could get things done.

How do you get a re-charge late in the day when you need it?

Born to run?

As a life long runner and lover of cross country (where you should run in a pack), Christopher McDougal's talk strings a resounding bell for me!

running along

Time does fly by when you are having as much fun as I am these days. First post in December and it is almost over? Wow.

I have been running and pretty regularly too. Just not spending time writing here. Sorry about that folks. I trust that you are well aware of where else I write so that you can find out what else is going on.

If not, here is a quick summary:

Steve's 2 Cents - my take on revealing the good experiences of daily life. I have been spending time sharing what I learn and developing a one word theme for each of the #the5 I find and share that day.

Job Search Jam Sessions - two events completed this year with planning underway for more next year. First up a track at the PodCamp Western Mass will be devoted to this topic. We get to leverage the social media expertise of the folks in the greater Springfield and Western MA area to help those looking for work.

Franklin Matters - a good deal of time is spent here. I did participate and report (mostly live) from 65 meetings during the 2010 calendar year. (No wonder I don't have much time to spend here!)

My current contract project management position is keeping me busy. My volunteer effort for the Franklin Food Pantry has been mostly behind the scenes thus far (other than what has been posted on FM) but with their website renewed for 2011, the work there should become much more visible.

So with 3 more days to run in 2010, I have only 2.3 miles to go to exceed what I accomplished in 2009 and I feel good about getting there in one more run.

Then it will be time to layout a schedule for some runs in 2011 and set the plan to improve upon the mileage and average time that I accomplished this year.

How have you done this year? What are you planning for 2011?

hitting the hills

Yes, I have been running. It has been an adjustment going back to running early in the morning now that I am back to work. I am fortunate to be able to leave later so I can run between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM as opposed to running around 4:00 or 5: 00 in order to catch the train.

Did the Summer St, Mount St, Upper Union loop this past Sunday. Will do that a couple of times to help prepare for the Thanksgiving Run in Brighton. Not that the hills in Brighton are tough but that the hill and resistance work that Summer and Mount provides will help me get into better shape quicker.

How are you running?

Do you have races to plan for?

Good run in the rain

How good was the run in the rain today? Two sherku worth!

The rain was warm and mingled with the sweat. The thoughts found their way almost like the river-lets of water along the roads.

How was your run today?

hug the shadows

hug the shadows, originally uploaded by shersteve.

I got out early for my run today before it got too hot. The sun was still rising so I hugged the side of Summer St to stay in the shadows.

Mount St was easier today than I expected. I guess my running recently has begun to pay some dividends. I had a strong finish coming down Upper Union to meet up with Dolores and then stopped for coffee at Dunkin Dounts for the final stretch home. It should have been a cool down, it was more like a drip down.

This was a good run day. I hope you had a good run today!

run in the shade

Sunday's long run was a good one in familiar territory out in central PA.

As warm as it was in Franklin we had the same weather, so I did my long run early before the temp rose to the high for the day. For most of the run, I was able to stay on the shade side of the road and out of the sun.

A cap and a white t-shirt also helped to deflect the sun.

Take care when you run in the sun and heat.

Tri or no tri?

I Had an interesting Friday. I ran my 4 miles in the morning, facilitated the Hopkinton Networking Group meeting, held my first 'office hours' on the Town Common to discuss Franklin matters, and then came home to go for a bike ride along the Blackstone River Bike Path with Dolores.

All went well until about 2.5 miles from the finish when the back tire started chattering at me. I stopped and sure enough, the tire had picked up a splinter of wood that could have easily been a spike. As soon as I removed it, woosh! the air escaped!

Fortunately, it was only 2.5 miles back to the car. Otherwise, Plan B would have been implemented.

A cold frosty went down nicely when we were both safely home, albeit a little later than we anticipated.

So for the scorecard, it was four miles running, 14.5 miles bike ride, and 2.5 miles walk. That's a tri right!
